Customers recommend. Best coding games for kids See what customers said about these highly rated items. This game can play a big role in helping even younger kids to understand the basic ideas of computer coding. As adults who aren't coders, we could assume this would be too difficult for our kids, because computer coding has been too difficult for most of us.

It's interesting to see him go from not liking the rules to fully understanding them, using them and then explaining to us the purpose and function of each rule. Great concept. Coding is the current and future language of business and creation. My kids have been playing this game non-stop since it arrived. It's such a fun and engaging way to introduce basic coding to kids. I really love the the maze walls and warp zones as they make kids use their problem solving skills to figure out the path they need to win. Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Although my yr-old daughter and I love this book for its great brilliantly colorful illustrations, clarity and detail, I can only give this four stars because it is incompatible with my Kindle Paper White and we thus have to read it on a Kindle For PC, which takes 30 seconds to load a new page. As it turns out, having begun reading the book on the PC, she requested the hardcopy to bring to Computing class at school as she doesn't want to have to waste time learning how to use the Kindle Fire just to read the book and she wouldn't be able to read the ebook on the school computer..
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase. I ordered this book for my 10 yr. He has been asking to learn about programming games and this looked like an easy way for him to start. I was impressed with the way it talked to him without being baby-ish.
Super Scratch Programming Adventure!: Learn to Program by Making Cool Games ...
He was able to do the first two projects by himself. The only problem we had was that the Scratch website had been rearranged since the printing of the book so some of the command block pieces were in different place than what the pictures showed. It took a little hunting but we did find everything that we needed.
He spends about an hour or two a week on Scratch trying out games and creating his own stuff. If you are looking for a simple how-to on Scratch for a self motivated middle school child this might be a good choice for you. This has been a wonderful introduction to scratch computer coding for my 6 year old boy and my 9 year old girl.

I have only a smattering of experience with coding and had no experience with scratch before this, but found this book to be very easy to follow and teach from. I think of this book as a recipe book for beginning chefs, it gives an exact recipe code for a game , but helps you to see how it could be used in other recipes programs.
I sit with my 6 year old and we do the lessons together exactly as written. He gets so excited seeing how he made something happen in his game. I sit sometimes with my 9 year old daughter and try to point out how each piece of code could be used in other programs, but she could do it all on her own, she doesn't actually need my help. I highly recommend this book as a fun introduction to scratch computer coding.

Scratch is a very powerful language and can be quite daunting for a kid to start and understand how to use all the controls. We got started watching some online videos but soon got stuck. This book is setup very well to pull the reader from the most basic controls through all the ones needed to make very cool looking games with multiple scripts, changing sprites and backgrounds and interactive controls. The Kindle version looks great on the Fire - just like the book. And the companion downloads make it easy so the kid can focus on the programming and have all the graphics ready.
One person found this helpful. My kids have had a great time working through the exercises disguised as adventures in this book. I've worked through a couple along side them, and I'm impressed with the clarity of the presentation. I think my kids are developing a good feel for the logic behind how to construct a computer program, and will be pretty well-prepared for the next step of sitting down to write more tradional code.
You'll get to chapter 2 and get lost, which typically happens with books that rely on websites to guide the content.

Seems to be out of sync with the Internet MIT site that accommodates the book. Created by the MIT Media Lab, it is intended to motivate for further learning through playfully experimenting and creating projects, such as interactive animations, games, etc. I ordered Super Scratch Programming Adventure!
I gave it to IrishWrath and IrishCyborg and let them loose! IrishWrath, with his companion Titan. This is his first review of the book. Scratch has a simple interface to ease wannabe programmers into the world of cyber space coding.
Although Scratch is easy to use you can make complex programs with it. This book uses a step by step approach guiding you through the tools required to make games, with the added bonus of being in comic format which just feels more fun to read! IrishCyborg is much more interested in programming, and has recently taken to spending time Khan Academy Computer Science. He is I asked mum to get a book. She picked a great one. Hack Attack: Scratchy needs to defend against viruses.
The book started to lose pages after about 2 hours of handling. Super Scratch Programming Adventure!
